Why Natural?

Updated: May 1, 2023

Many natural ingredients have numerous benefits over their synthetic counterparts. For example, coconut oil is a rich source of fatty acids, which help to nourish and moisturize the skin. It also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which provide benefits in and of themselves. Similarly, beef tallow contains high levels of vitamins A and E, which are essential for healthy skin, and has been shown to improve skin hydration and elasticity which can help keep you looking young and keep wrinkles at bay.

Beeswax, on the other hand, is an excellent natural emollient (something that helps provide a protective barrier) that helps to lock in moisture and protect the skin from environmental damage. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it an effective aid for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

In contrast, synthetic ingredients such as petrolatum and silicones can actually be harmful to the skin. Petrolatum (petroleum jelly), for example, can clog pores and lead to breakouts, while silicones can create a barrier on the skin that prevents it from breathing and can cause irritation and inflammation.

Furthermore, many synthetic ingredients have been linked to health concerns, such as hormone disruption and cancer. For example, parabens (many of which are banned in Europe), which are commonly used as preservatives in skincare products, have been shown to mimic estrogen in the body and may contribute to the development of breast cancer. Phthalates, which are used as plasticizers in cosmetics, have also been linked to hormone disruption and developmental problems in children.

Another reason why natural products are preferred is that they are often more environmentally friendly. For example, petrolatum is a by-product of the oil industry and is not biodegradable, meaning it can persist in the environment for many years. Similarly, many silicones are made from petroleum-based materials, which are non-renewable resources that contribute to environmental pollution and climate change. In contrast, natural products like coconut oil and beeswax are renewable resources that can be responsibly harvested, making them a more eco-friendly choice as we steward the world God gave us.

In summary, natural personal care products are better for you and better for the world, so what's not to love?
